PrestaShop Send to a friend

With this free module you can add a feature to your product pages commonly named "send to a friend". This feature allows your shop's product pages visitors to send an email to friend with url of viewed product page. This feature was available in PrestaShop 1.6 by default, unfortuantely in PrestaShop 1.7, 8.x and 9.x it isn't. With this free addon you can build "send to a friend" form again!

Why are there several versions of the module?
This is due to the fact that different PrestaShop releases use different programming solutions. Features working e.g. in PrestaShop 1.7 may not work in PrestaShop 9. Hence the need to release different versions of the module, which will ensure operation in many different versions of the shop.

Why “Send to a Friend” still drives word-of-mouth

When a customer finds a product they love, they often want to share it—with a partner, a friend, or a colleague. Copy-pasting the URL into an email or messenger works, but it’s clunky. A dedicated “Send to a Friend” action on the product page is faster and feels intentional: one click, a short form, and the friend gets a proper email with the product link and a personal note from the sender.

PrestaShop 1.6 offered this out of the box. From 1.7 onward, the feature was dropped. Many stores missed it. This free module restores it without touching core files: a button on the product page opens a popup (Fancybox) with the product image and short description, fields for the friend’s name and email, and—for guests—the sender’s name. Submitting sends a professional, multilingual email with a configurable subject line.

You stay in control: enable or disable GDPR consent (checkbox + link to your privacy CMS page), set the email title per language with placeholders for sender and product name, and rely on built-in validation (name length, no URLs in name, valid email). The friend receives a clear, shop-branded message with a direct link to the product. Simple, effective, and free.

Features in detail

One-click sharing from product page

A “Send to a friend” button appears in the product additional info area. Clicking it opens a Fancybox popup with the current product’s image and short description, plus a compact form: friend’s name, friend’s email, and—for guests—sender’s name. Submission is via AJAX; no full page reload.

GDPR-ready consent

In the back office you can enable “GDPR Compliant” and choose a CMS page for your privacy policy. On the form, a checkbox and link to that page are shown; the Send button stays disabled until the user accepts. Keeps sharing simple while supporting consent where required.

Customizable, multilingual email

The email subject is configurable per language. Use placeholders: %1$s for the sender’s name and %2$s for the product name. Mail templates (HTML and text) are in the module’s mails folder and support full translation. The friend sees a clear message with the product link and your shop name.

Back office: one simple configuration screen

All settings are in a single form: GDPR toggle, privacy policy CMS page, and the multilingual “Email title” field. No tabs to hunt through—what you set here is what your customers get.
